This Week at the Statehouse - Week 3

The third week of session continued subcommittee work and committees began passing bills.  The Senate began working on the House passed version of the Eminent Domain/Carbon Pipeline bill, taking it up in subcommittee. Both chambers and the governor's office have all released their property tax plans, as well.  The House started the subcommittee process on their bill this week.

The House Higher Education Committee received a presentation update the provosts of the three Regents universities on progress on 3-year degrees and Work+ programs.  The Senate and House Education committees started work, passing a couple of bills that relate to the universities, as did the Higher Education, which passed a number of bills.

Additionally, legislators continued holding subcommittees, the status of which can be found below.

The first funnel, a procedural process whereby legislation has to pass a committee in the chamber in which it originated to stay eligible for further debate, is scheduled for Friday, February 20.

Each week the spreadsheet below will be updated to show the latest action on the many bills that the Board of Regents staff is tracking throughout this session. Some of the below bills do not apply specifically to UNI, but we closely monitoring legislation all session that may affect our students, faculty, and campuses at all three institutions. We have been collaborating with lawmakers to ensure UNI’s voice is heard and will continue to advocate for initiatives that support our mission.
